Synopsis:
A Glimpse of Malaysia is a medley of 5 folksongs selected from various parts of Malaysia, giving the listener a brief but distinct taste of the differences found in each state, which is what makes Malaysia such a unique melting pot of cultures. I have taken the artistic liberty of adding some Western spice to a traditional recipe. From the rolling hills of Borneo (Jambatan Tamparuli and Liling), we journey across the terrains in the peninsula (a leisurely Lenggang Lenggang Kangkung and a jazzy Jong Jong Inai depicting the combination of country and city life) and the medley ends with a call to return home no matter we are (Geylang Si Paku Geylang). This arrangement was commissioned for the Young KL Singers for their concert “Beat It, Sing It” in 2004.
