Shinichi Minamide graduated as a double bass major from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1977. He joined the Telemann Chamber Orchestra at the same time when he entered the university. During his time at the university, he played Schubert’s “Trout” with the Hungarian Kodaly quartet and received a good reputation.
In 1993 he left the Telemann Chamber Orchestra due to the injury of his left index finger. Despite going through many treatments, his finger does not recover. In the following year, he invented a method of playing without using left index finger and returns as a freelance performer.
Minamide is a student of Masahiro Nishide, Gary Karr, and studied chamber music with Toshio Kuronuma, Gerhard Bosse and conducting with Tsutsumi Shunsaku. Currently he is the host of the Reiz Chamber Orchestra, the double bass instructor of Kobe College and Hyogo Prefectural Nishinomiya High school and conduct the Asago-shi juvenile orchestra.
