Chia, Isaac

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Isaac started as a trumpeter at the age of 10. He picked up composition and orchestration in Catholic High School Band and went on to obtain his Bachelors of Music in Trumpet Performance from the UCSI University with a degree granted by the Newcastle University, Australia.

After graduating from UCSIU, Isaac continued as a tutor and lecturer in UCSIU. In 2008, he left Malaysia to further his music studies in France. He obtained his Diploma in Composition from the Conservatoire de Rayonnement Régional de Montpellier Agglomération under the guidance of Mr Christophe de Coudenhove. He then further his studies in electroacoustic composition and orchestration at the Conservatoire National de Région Pierre Barbizet, Marseille.

Isaac had the privilege of working with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in MPO’s Composer Forumplus, where his work 50% and  Gambaran Tarian Singa (A Lion Dance Impression) was premiered in June 2009 and February 2010 respectively.

With many years of experience in different genres of music, Isaac composes and arranges classical, pop, jazz and contemporary electronic music for different settings, including symphony orchestra, chamber ensemble, symphonic band, marching band, choir and vocal ensemble. He also creates scores for films and animation films.
